        Susan Mary Murphy (Mertens), a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2024 at the age of 65.  Born April 8, 1959 in Stanley, Wisconsin, Susan was raised on the family farm in the Town of Butler with her parents and nine siblings, where she developed a strong sense of family and community.
     After completing her education at Thorp Catholic and Public schools, Susan married Dennis Murphy on July 12, 1980.  The couple made their home in the Town of Reseberg, rural Thorp, for the next 45 years. 
     A devoted mother, Susan took great pride in raising her three children and being actively involved in their lives.  She cherished spending time with her family, including her two granddaughters, four grandsons, and one grandchild on the way, always offering support, guidance, and unconditional love.  Known for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering spirit, Susan was an avid reader, lover of music, and bird watcher.
     She will be deeply missed by her husband Dennis; children: Michael (Catlin) of St. Louis Park, MN, Matthew (Brittany) of Eau Claire, and Jessica (Richard) Gong of Berkeley, CA; two granddaughters, four grandsons, and one arriving this summer; her siblings: Bernadine (Wayne) Nitz of Neenah WI, Barbara (William) Sladich of Greenwood WI, Thomas (Theresa) Mertens of Lake Hallie, WI, Paul (Ann) Mertens of Thorp WI, Louise Noah of Thorp, WI, Richard (Lisa) Mertens of Grand Chute WI, Annmarie (Dan) Olejniczak of Cadott WI, and James (Kimberly) Mertens of Thorp, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. 
     She was preceded in death by her mother, father, her beloved older brother Bernard “Binky”, and her brother-in-law: Tom Noah.
     In respect of Susan’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service.  The family will be holding a private gathering to honor her memory.
