ELIZABETH M. "BETTY" FRAID, age 84, of West Allis, WI, formerly of Willard, WI, passed away at Matthew's Senior Living, in Saint Francis, WI, on Friday, July 14, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Willard. Rev. Steve Brice will officiate and burial will follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Vic Staut, Mike Friedman, Ron Volovsek, Greg Lindner, La Verne Volovsek and Frank Sladich. Visitation will be held at the church, on Wednesday, from 10am until time of service.
Elizabeth Marie Volovsek was born on November 21, 1932 on a farm 4 miles west of Greenwood, WI, the daughter of Frank Sr. and Anna (Flis) Volovsek. She was raised on the family farm, in Willard, and received her education in the Willard area, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1950. After completing her education, Betty moved to West Allis and went to work for Allis Chalmers as a secretary. It was there that she met her future husband, Joseph W. Fraid, Jr. They were united in marriage on September 25, 1954 at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Willard. They spent many weekends at her husband's home farm in Daggett, MI, at her parent's home farm in Willard, and at the Volovsek cabin on Mead Lake helping her aging parents. She continued to work for Allis Chalmers, which later became the Siemens Corp. until retiring in 1982. After retiring, Betty used her secretarial skills and spent many months authoring and organizing a comprehensive booklet of the Volovsek family genealogy for her large, extended family. Betty also loved her flowers, and every year her backyard was the envy of the neighborhood. She continued to live in her beloved West Allis home until medical issues forced her to move into assisted living.
She is survived by one brother, Tony Volovsek, of Kamiah, ID, and many, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe, on October 2, 2001; six brothers: Frank Jr., William, Joe, Al, Stanley and John Volovsek; and four sisters: Elizabeth, in infancy, Anna Lohrman, Mary Staut and Margaret Jeras.
