I'm very sorry to hear of Walt's passing. In my early years in Greenwood, I had no better friend than Walter. He always had time to listen to me and gave me excellent counsel. My condolences to the entire family.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Walter Backus. I like many others have many memories of him delivering fuel to the farm. He will be sadly missed.

I remember Walter always delivered fuel to us when I was a child. He was always nice to the flock of children boiling around him. He was a good man and an important part of the community. My sympathies for your loss.

Dear family of Walt,

What a loss it is for all of us to lose Walter. Dad often repeated the fact that Walter was just 2 days younger than him. I'm so glad I got to see him a couple of times this past year, most recently this summer 2nuezat Greenwood Apartments where he was persuaded to come in and share a few moments with Dad. I think it was around Easter 2014 or maybe the year before that Mom, Dad and I got to visit him at his home. What a tough guy, still managing to live in his house. I hope Dad keeps telling those "Walt" stories. He enjoyed copying his slow delivery. May the angels lead him into paradise. God bless you all.

Deepest sympathies from myself and my Sister Lisa Wallis as well as my nephews Jeff and Jessie Raine and niece Autumn Conner. Walter was a wonderful, kind true gentleman and a good friend to my Mom and Dad Harry and Joan back Wallis as well as the rest of our family. We will miss you Walter.

Walter was our neighbor and good friend , he will be missed dearly. We will miss your morning coffee with him, and his great sense of humor.

Our condolences to Walt's family, he was a very good and well respected man. One of my first memories as a small child was Walt slowly coming down our driveway to deliver fuel, he always had something good to say.

always told Walt....it was cheaper to drive to Willard for coffee.....and some tall tails...than to buy a pound of coffee.....now what to do with the mornings....

I am so sorry to hear of Walts passing, he truely was a bright spot in my life. His notes back to me when I sent him his medicine along with the tootsie rolls of course! He always made me smile, and then when he was able we sent letters back and forth then a few phone calls. I hope he is reunited with his beloved white kitty and others that went home before him.I will ALWAYS remember him as a true good person and a GREAT friend! I am honored to have him in my life.

I had the privilege of replacing the basement stairs in Walt's home back in the late 1990's. A soft-spoken individual who kept me company during my carpentry task, Walt was a man of wisdom, full of tenderhearted compassion, good conversation, and who was kind toward all. No one in his presence ever remained a stranger for very long. May God's Holy Spirit provide comfort for the family of this wonderful man.

My sincere sorrows to the family. Walt was a family friend, he always had a good word to say about all.
May the memory of his slow paced voice, be a memory well preserved. He was a great man, with a personality with charm.
